Top Music Tips From Industry Taste-makers with 7pm Management – May 2013

Seven Webster & Claire Lloyd from music management company 7pm Management ask some of the music industries heaviest hitters & tastemakers which music to look out for in coming months!

Jen Long (Radio 1 DJ)

CUT RIBBONS are from Llanelli, but don’t hold it against them! On record they make a sound comparable to Guided By Voices coming head to head with The Joy Formidable. Live, they’ll slay you with their boy/girl harmonies and endearing banter. They’re playing at The Great Escape; Green Door Store on May 10th. Come and fall in love. facebook.com/Cutribbons

Mike Walsh (Deputy Programme Director / Head of Music XFM)

MEG MYERS – ‘Tennessee’ is a Cracker. Mary Anne Hobbs found it via a friend in LA and it’s her ‘Game Changer’ It’s already been her Record of the Week on her ‘Music:Response’ show on XFM and is getting tons of reaction. It’s pure class – inverted LA hipster cool genius. meginthedark.com

Richard Reines (R&S Management / Drive Thru Records US)

NOTHING BUT THIEVES are the real deal, they had us on first listen. ‘To Fly you’ve got to Fall’ pulls on influences like Queen, with soaring vocals, epic guitars and elegant piano combined with great songs – a producer’s dream. Check out this band, they play the Garage in London May 8th. Expect a queue of music industry to be there. facebook.com/NothingButThieves

HANGING DOLL  Finding a new artist that gives you chills, thrills and an urgent need to hear more is rare. Hanging Doll had me begging for more after their new album – with so much generic music out there, to find a band that you can describe as ‘different’ is wonderful. Hauntingly beautiful, powerful, technically stunning, and top of my ‘destined to be great’ list. hangingdoll.co.uk

Top of the list of acts to check out this year has to be DZ Deathrays who smashed it last year, they were our top tip for ‘11 and it was great to see them signed as a result . DZ’s Great Escape return is at Horatio’s May 12th at 10.15pm. Check out Ben Salter at the Hub May 10th at 4pm or the Unitarian Church 8.15pm on May 12th. Other acts we love worth trying to see are Emma Louise, The Computers, We Are Scientists, Sonic Boom Six, Inland Sea and too many others to mention!
