Memphis beauty Valerie June has become a near to overnight sensation here in the UK. The soulful singer songwriter has managed to melt the hearts of even the most unforgiving of audiences with her earthy blend of gospel, folk and country, met with eclectic and raw sounding blues. Straight from Jackson, Tennessee, the singer has come a long way from a humble background performing in her local gospel choir. Her rich and poetic vocals are haunting and melodic and have the ability to sway from ear-achingly powerful to a voice that could soothe you to sleep. It wasn’t until last year that Valerie June made a bold move to test our shores and perform for the first time in the UK, with appearances at Bestival and a tour alongside Jake Bugg at the beginning of this year. “Pushin’ Against A Stone” was released May this year and is the first long player from June as a signed artist, following three self released albums. The wholesome voiced Valerie will be making her way down to Brighton this November with a no doubt gut wrenchingly soulful set at The Haunt. One not to be missed.
Starts at 7pm. Tickets £12. Ages 14+
