Danish folk group Boho Dancer are set to to ignite Brighton’s ever animated underbelly this Autumn with a powerfully intimate set at Brighton Komedia. Infusing primitive, sweet-sounding vocals with decisively haunting and gothic chords, the Scandinavian trio display feverish warmth and hold a towering reputation for their hearty and profoundly soulful melodic ballads.
Lead vocalist Ida Wenøe agrees; “It has a melancholic Nordic vibe,” with the troupe setting out to create a visionary yet somber reflection of previous childhood fantasies and adventures, and is described as “a fairy tale for adults.”
The group have recently performed at several international festivals, including SPOT (DK), Reeperbahn (DE), Berlin Music Week (DE), Hit the City (NL) and Nordklang (CH) and whilst touring their native land have garnered quite a following.
Debut album “Gemini”, out now, has been declared “a haunting delight”…by the band themselves, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. Songs feature story-like ramblings and insights into friends past and present, lost loves and even bad weather….the last should please the British audiences.
Their ingenious mix of feel good, folklore pop and unearthly, mournful melodies undoubtedly denote Wenøe as a twisted lyrical genius and Boho Dancer as a band to watch.
