Any vinyl enthusiasts out there will probably be familiar with Record Store Day, a worldwide celebration of the much-loved survivor of the digital age. Vinyl’s popularity as a format shows no signs of slowing down either, after five years and counting of rising sales and fantastic new releases. On September the 7th, International Cassette Store Day will make its debut. Believe it or not, cassettes do still exist and have been making a small, but noticeable resurgence over the past few years. Project organizers say, “International Cassette Store Day 2013 is a celebration of a physical product that is accessible, fun, cheap and still going strong in the turbulent current musical climate.” Is it just a fad? Or will you be wishing you hadn’t thrown away that cassette player back in 1997? Only time will tell, but with releases from the likes of At The Drive In, The Flaming Lips, Deerhunter, Los Campesinos!, Rolo Tomassi and many more, it is bound to be popular among collectors and music lovers alike. Supporting the event in Brighton are both Resident Records and Cult Hero, so come on down and show your love for physical formats!
Saturday September 7, Worldwide and at Resident and Cult Hero Brighton.
