So, did you know that Mr Scruff actually has a tea company? No, seriously, he actually does. Makeusabrew.com is full of helpful hints and step by step advice on making the most perfect cup of brew around, product of the highest quality and brand t-shirts and mugs, of course. This might actually be the best thing I’ve seen all week. The site is reflective of the man; a good blend of the things we love (in this case tea) with a ‘large dose of cheek and good humour’. Charming, especially the trademark cartoons he just loves to draw. Don’t you just want to meet him? What a weirdo!!
Sundays are for lounging around, drinking tea, having a roast if you’re lucky and then what? Not often is there something worth getting out of bed for, especially if it’s blatantly obvious that the prospect of tea could be a lost notion. I won’t lie, I assumed the tea aspect would be ironic not literal and contemplated having to leave Digital to get some coffee (“What do you mean we can’t come back in?”). It’s just that in spite of the lack of baristas there was no detail left to disappoint. There it was; tea and mugs and brand t-shirts, of course.
His use of nearly every genre, something for everyone, seems to go to new lengths every time he plays. This night was five hours of dub mixed with what can only be described as samba, swing and all sorts; a pick and mix of musical genius laced with the brand of the artist.
The moment which impressed many the most was when he dropped the George Michael and Mary Jay Blige hit ‘AS’ purely because until then, though the track is undoubtedly of a high standard technically, it had been rather grating on some of us. The most charming of all his escapades this evening was the projector which displayed a selection of cartoons and messages such as ‘Wobble those legs’, ‘Incoming bass-line alert’ and ‘Big Up Brighton Massive….Fiveways, Hove, Lewes Road etc etc etc’.
