Pop up Breakfast at The Depot, Lewes
Carmen Slijpen has always loved cinema and her early jobs included being an usher and then a projectionist. After setting up a successful family film society in her hometown of Lewes, she decided to go the whole hog and re-establish a cinema there.
It took five years of hard work before the Depot finally opened in May 2017. Locals immediately took it to their hearts as a community hub. Depot shows a programme of mainstream, art house and independent films along with documentaries, special events, guest speakers and workshops.
But Depot is much more than a cinema – it also boasts a café, restaurant and outdoor garden space. It strives to be as sustainable as possible and runs its own annual Climate Action Film festival. It has been voted as one of the top 10 independent cinemas in the UK by Guardian readers.
At November’s pop-up, held at Depot itself, Carmen will be interviewed by Sussex-based entrepreneur and business consultant Richard Freeman.
So now we’ve put you in the picture, we hope you’ll join us there.
Pop-up Breakfasts, as their name suggests, take place at different venues all over the city, many of them special places in their own right. They attract 40-60 attendees and are perfect for easy, friendly networking.
There is a wide range of people who attend across all sectors and all sizes, from sole traders and start-ups to some of the biggest businesses in the city.
What to expect:
- A delicious breakfast

- A talk from a brilliant, local business owner
- And, a chance to chat with familiar faces and new
At each event, there is a guest speaker, who’ll talk about their experiences of running a business and their own personal journey.
If it is your first Chamber networking event or you haven’t attended in a while the Chamber team are always on hand to make introductions.

What’s the refund policy? Places are limited, and events are usually oversubscribed. Please give two working days’ notice via email for a refund* or you’ll be required to pay for your place in full.
*Eventbrite booking fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled or there are duplicate charges.
Can I attend if I am not a member of the Chamber? If you have never been a member of the Chamber you can book and join as a guest at two of our events (just one Chamber Breakfast). After this, you will need to join the Chamber to enjoy the benefits of membership. If you’d like to join the Chamber you can find out more on our website.
