Beloved, an exhibition bringing suicide and addiction deaths into the light by Antonia Rolls
“Arise my Beloved, my beautiful one, and come”
The Beloveds of the title are those who have died through suicide and addictions and now work in the light. They come to carry those suffering down here at the moment of their deaths up into the light, telling them that they are safe, the pain is over, and they are loved. The Beloveds look as they did while on this earth so as not to frighten the passing souls.
Beloved, the exhibition, is a response to the deaths of my two sons aged 29 and 27. Both died through drugs, alcohol and suicide. Their deaths gave me a choice, to surrender to the darkness that took them, or to look for the light. This exhibition is about offering hope and light where we think there is none.
I am also showing works from my previous exhibition which explored addiction in order to understand my boys’ powerful drug and alcohol use. Addicts And Those Who Love Them, behind every addict is someone traumatised by loving them (me and so many of us) will also be showing. Portraits and words from, with and of addiction.
All are welcome. All my work is about hope, light and consolation.
