It may be 2009, coming on 2010, but in New Hero, It Is Still 1985. Brighton’s notoriously popular Saturday club night presents its 1980’s New Years Eve spectacular with two floors of 80’s tunes and 80’s films, revelling shamelessly in the best / worst, brilliant / terrible, awful / awfully good moments of the decade that taste forgot. Fancy dress is, of course, encouraged, and the New Hero DJs will play all the definitive 1985 classics and whole host of 80’s surprises! The basic music policy for the evening can be divided into the following 80’s sub genres:
Global Power Superstars: Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Cyndi Lauper, Elton John etc.
Coporate Radio Rock: Bruce Springsteen, Queen, Tina Turner, Huey Lewis & The News, Robert Palmer etc.
Epic And Emotional Fist Clenching Power Ballad-ry: Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Toto, Bonnie Tyler etc.
Actually Very Good Stuff: The Cure, AC/DC, David Bowie, Prince, The Specials, New Order, The Clash etc.
Spandex-Clad Cock Rock: Guns ‘N’ Roses, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Motley Crue etc.
Songs From The Soundtrack That Shamelessly Promote The Album They Were In: Irene Cara, Patrick Swayze etc.
Synth Glory: Depeche Mode, A-ha, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Eurythmics, Human League, Gary Numan etc.
The Sound Of Your Dad’s Car Stereo: Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Tears For Fears etc.
Amazing.
