Every now and then, a band seems to spring up from nowhere and do something new. Public Service Broadcasting are one of these bands and will be touring their first full length album in the early summer. For the uninitiated – Public Service Broadcasting deploy iconic samples of well- not to mince words, public service broadcasts over post-rock dynamics to create a unique noise that takes the listener on an engaging post-modern journey through hypnotic sonic landscapes and history.  PSB never fail to offer a magnificent slice of trip-psych-rock that unravels in a compelling and often perplexing manner, and can be legitimately filed alongside other post- millennium sonic pioneers such as Burial, James Blake and Django Django for bringing something futuristic to the past and present. Samples drift and in and out of the mix seamlessly, and arrangements are tight, but far from pedestrian. PSB’s short, but perfectly realised debut, “ The War Room”, very much follows this template and is accompanied by a series of  alternative mixes and reinterpretations that are as vital as Django Django’s  and The Horrors’ recent remix collections. The forthcoming tour showcases PSB’s upcoming offering,”Inform-Educate-Entertain”, which has already been trail blazed by the splendid, “Everest”. It’s sure to feature in the next batch of Mercury Prize Nominations, and as success beckons, it will be worth-while checking out PSB in an intimate venue that can project their delicate musical eccentricities and nuances.
Public Service Broadcasting appear at The Haunt on May 21st, and tickets are available from www.seetickets.com and usual outlets.
