The band Lazy Habits has been a YouTube and festival hit but in the wake of their first studio album release they have become somewhat more organized and successful as they now are headlining the most recent Playgroup Festival along with other artists like Gypsy Disco and The London Afro beat Collective.
Lazy Habits are a live hip-hop band that combines rhythm with rapping. The music takes inspiration from old jazz quartets, big band sounds with cleaver word crafting. They have been around for some time now, lurking on the interweb in one form or another, originally the band started off as just one MC but now boasts a complement of eight musicians as well as one of the finest beatboxers. It is common for the band to play live music with drums, bass and the brass section for a Jazz Band.
Another line up success is Gypsy Disco who have a place in my heart as they describe themselves as “A collective of Dreamers, Fanatics, Freaks & Explorers” who play music, to call them a band would be selling them short as they more are a mismatched bunch of debauched dreamers. Expect to see belly dancers, fire-breathers and other circus performances. It seems like clothing maybe optional at the event as the groups tag line proudly orders the audience to “sing, dance and get naked”
Glancing at the Facebook page of London Afro Beat Collective it seems like they have a fairly large and almost cult following. They are a dirty dozen of musicians who music is fueled by blazing horns, shaking drum beats, shimmering guitars with politically driven vocals.
All of these acts will be residing in the Concord 2 for one night only and the venue is one of Brighton’s hidden clubbing gems. No words can describe the atmosphere of the venue as every wall oozes with style and history
Starting at 11pm, £11 each on the door, £15 advance. Aged 18+. R.O.A.R.
