Unitarian Church, 30 August

Anyone not heading to Beachdown and looking for a great bank holiday alternative should head down to the Unitarian Church in Brighton on 30 August for some monkey magic, courtesy of  The Big Monkey Street Gig. The event’s a free charity mini-fest headlined by the Laylanas and also featuring other local faves Sweet Sweet Lies, together with the Agitator, Amity and the Croydon Facelifts. In support of TreeHouse, the national autism charity which has been doing superb work since 1997, the festival is set in the beautiful surrounds of the Unitarian Church in New Road, who have officially opened up their steps to bands for the first time. The bands will be performing from 1pm – 5pm, with some super secret special guests to be announced the day before the event.

The Laylanas

The Laylanas have been wowing the crowds in support of both Alabama 3 and Shane MacGowan in recent months with their brilliant alt-country sounds, and said of the festival: “…we hope to make it an annual event, to raise awareness for this charity whilst gathering all of Brighton up, to enjoy some great music, and it’s FREE.”

Head down to listen to some of Brighton’s best bands and support this excellent cause.
