Playgroup Festival, Eridge Park, 21-23 September

The promoters behind Blind Tiger return for another outing of Playgroup Festival, set to be as jauntily revelrous as before with a host of local and international acts spanning music and cabaret. Eclecticism, eccentricity and fancy dress are prerequisites at a warm, escapist affair that could only have come out of Brighton.
The theme this year is ‘Lost Toys’, fitting for the reversion to childhood frolics encouraged by the festival. Shifting the focus from big name artists, Playgroup focuses on a wealth of interactivity and a determined grip on the silly and surreal championed by bigger festivals like Secret Garden Party. Activities for both adults and kids abound, from circus skills to taxidermy courses and nipple tassle making, alongside a nightlife roster set to switch fairground pleasantry to wonderland rave after dark.
Heading this lineup are b-boy turntablist DJs Format and Yoda, Ninja Tune’s Qemists and The Herbaliser (fresh from a Brighton show the preceding weekend) and Brighton’s very own dubstep dandy High Rankin, as well as dance acts such as Anneka and RESO. Other acts include local comm:UNITY veterans Dizraeli & The Small Gods and King Porter Stomp.
Suitably Brighton, Playgroup Festival is sure to be a hoot from its grassroots right up to its novelty hats.
If you’re from Brighton, or you love Brighton, don’t miss this event.
