One of the hottest tickets of the moment, he’s tipped by both industry & those who follow music because they love it. With debut album WHITE NOISE out now & a show at the Brighton Hope, XYZ’s Kaye Li interrupted Seye’s song-writing to find out more …

The press describe your music as ‘brand new & unique’, how would you decribe your music for those yet to hear?
S: African rhythms & textures meet a more UK Pop sensibility. You can dance to it, you can sing along but its filled with stuff you don’t really hear over here.
The dates with Emeli Sande sold out, how‘s touring together?
Emeli is a great voice & a great lady. She’s down to earth even though her barnet’s reaching for the sky like mine!
Tell us about your latest release …
White Noise is about someone who never seems satisfied. Like a kid with a toy they love, then seeing another toy they discard the perfectly good old toy for a new one. It sounds like a relatively heavy subject but the track is good to dance to. Looking forward to playing it at festivals this year!
Yours is a musical family – how’s the big bro doing?
Haha Gbenga is cool. The Metronomy gang are so busy and so am I these days its hard to ever find time to hang out BUT we always keep an eye out for each other and have each other’s backs. He has done a killer remix of White Noise too so thanks Jenga ha
Any good at roleplay? In a break from tradition, ask yourself a question and answer it.
S1: “So Sayeee…”
S2: ” … excuse me dude it’s pronounced like ‘SHARE'”
S1: “Sorry Seye” *chuckle chuckle*. “I have a cheeky little question for you, if I were to ask you what your favourite thing is about your job, what would you say?”
S2: “Ahh good question Seye, its an easy one to answer. I do this for the girls and the money and the drugs”
S1: *Gasp*
S2: ” … hahaha only kidding, just the money.”
Best party you’ve been to this year?
The OK! Magazine Nigeria launch – it’s the first time a publication like that has happened in Africa so that party was good because of the esteem. And the vodka mixer was called “Pussy”.
