One of Warp Records’ best kept secrets, Gravenhurst readies his serene brand of psychedelic gloom for the Blind Tiger.
As reminiscent of Fairport Convention as The Smiths and Joy Division, Gravenhurst’s music – as proven on his podcast with The Guardian earlier this year – draws influences from the bleakest of folk to the most transcendent of electronica and post-punk. Evidently rising in the wake of Warp staples Broadcast and similarly eloquent in gentle strokes of effects, his solemn lyrical symbolism is spared opacity by the breadth of his arrangements, his multi-instrumentalism coming to the fore most prominently in this year’s release The Ghost In Daylight. Marked by critics for its languid hooks and diverse sonics, the album will appease the fog commonplace to Gravenhurst’s melancholy sets, promising captivating walls of sound and a more positive platform for his characteristically fragile tones.
£7.50, doors 20:00.
