Brighton Festival @ Brighton Dome; May 2013

Brighton Festival – our very own three week arty party – runs next year from Saturday May 4 to Sunday May 26, and they have snagged a special guest to be their Guest Director.
The role of Guest Director is there to help bring in outside knowledge and experience of the arts to the festival, and Michael Rosen has stepped forward to fill the spot for 2013. An acclaimed poet and writer, previously a Children’s Laureate, and a popular broadcaster besides, Rosen’s years of experience at educating and connecting with audiences looks set to give generous dose of new perspective to the festival.
The traditional Children’s Parade, which has opened the festival for over 25 years will be themed on the Alphabet as a tribute to Rosen’s love of language.  The parade usually has up to 4,000 performers, with an average audience of around 10,000, so it looks set to kick off the festival on a high note.
This year’s festival featured over 350 performances and more than 140 events in the fields of visual art, theatre, music, books, and debates. The full details for Brighton Festival 2013 will be available in February.
