Radio 1 weekend staple and chief party-starter Annie Mac sets to get Digital jumping for its 5th Birthday with her hype-o-matic Irish lilt.
Essentially the admiral of electronic-music-for-the-people and conduit of name DJs to Radio 1, Annie Mac’s gravelly tones are almost synonymous with dance music broadcasting. That smoky, grizzled-by-the-night-before voice, with its throwaway Dublin tinge (since pervaded by notes of the London and Ibiza scenes she dominates) blends inconspicuously into the hyper-warped Radio 1 intro vox pops that frequently surround her longstanding presence on air and podcasts. Equal parts unmatched underground erudite and unabashed populist, she’s reached this point through tackling entertainment and late-night specialist shows alike (a rarity before new golden boy Grimmy’s morning slot), proving herself likeable beyond a talent for enthused radio commentary.
Luckily, she provides this charisma and jump-up impetus as much in her shows as her DJ sets, together with stellar scene credentials. A regular host of stages and clubs from Ibiza to Bestival, she’s rubbed shoulders with half the industry and subsequently her record choices are as well-chosen as her programming.
As Digital reaffirms it’s status as one of the best clubs in town, Annie Mac is the perfect choice to celebrate an unpretentious institute of good times, with a penchant for the underground.
