Brighton’s disco-funk mavericks change up the pace with their latest offering. In a move away from their usual dance floor filling beats, the lads hit us in the face with a top driving tune and summer festival anthem.
If you’ve ever been on a long road trip, you’ll instantly recognise the feeling this song conjures up. The video, shot by local production company, Other Finger Films, conveys the feeling of motion and the desire to keep the ‘show on the road’. We watch the band from their instruments’ point of view, giving not only a sense of dynamism (as guitars and amps are hauled into and out of vans, over fences, and across fields), but a candid view of a band on tour. It’s great to see a local act with ambition, and whilst this may not be Route 66 in the blazing sunshine, the feeling of breaking out and eating up the tarmac with your buddies is ever-present.
The jangly guitars and tight harmonies give this a ‘60s surf feel. There’s even a bass solo slapped in for good measure – something you might expect from an Emerson, Lake & Palmer prog rock song, not a three and half minute pop number.
The highlight has to be the catchy chorus. Lodged in the deepest corner of your brain for days, you’ll be humming this ditty while sat at your office desk, day dreaming of your summer hols. Don’t be surprised to hear this track blasting out over a Toyota car advert in a couple of months. Now if you’ll excuse us, there’s a road trip mix-tape needs making…
