Review – Guy Garvey "Courting The Squall"

Review – Guy Garvey "Courting The Squall"

The debut solo release from the Elbow frontman and BBC 6 DJ echoes the early days of “Asleep At The Back”, with eclectic bursts of hot sixties psyche, funky African rhythms, grand piano ballads and introspective lyricism.
Naturally, with such a recognisable vocal, the LP sometimes sounds close to Garvey’s full-time output. Colours pulled from a single palette however, lead to a more casual, less pained and ultimately honest glimpse of one of the UK’s most celebrated artists.

7/10 – Out now
