Live: The Pursuit

Live: The Pursuit

Up and coming young band The Pursuit have been busy gigging all around town recently, followed in their tracks by a wave of great reviews and crowd adoration. The four boys from Lewes played at Hectors House last Monday so
XYZ’s Léo Rahban and Sam Hiscox went down to see what the fuss was all about.
Hectors House has kinda become my local recently! Cheap booze and unsigned bands gigs = good night guaranteed!
I’d met The Pursuit at the Concorde 2 birthday party a while back when they’d approached me to give me their demo CD. I was really impressed by their sound then and their live performance didn’t disappoint. They got on stage just after 10pm and started with ‘You Could Have Meant‘ which starts with a vibrant seemly rock’n’roll intro. These guys are really young but they certainly know what they’re doing! Although their second song ‘A Classic Case of Blindness” was disappointing (I thought the vocals were a bit weak) I enjoyed all of the other songs. By song four the boys were on it full power and delivered some wicked guitar solos and great vocals by lead singer Louis Mcgown (wicked hat by the way!)
Their song ‘Yes/No‘ got everyone rocking and jumping! They then slowed down a bit and sung ‘Days‘, my personal favourite. A mature, deeper song with again some strong guitars and drums.
I wish they had interacted a bit more with the crowd throughout the gig but there were not so many of us which might have put them off a little bit. Their 7th and last song was called ‘Chase’ and again was just as powerful as the previous ones.
I’ll surely go and see them live again; if they’re already that good that young, The Pursuit is definitely a band to look out for
