MSTRKRFT

Ocean Rooms, 20 August 2009

It’s been a while since the groovesome twosome otherwise known as MSTRKRFT graced our fair city with their presence. Back then, their debut album “The Looks” had not long been released and they were perhaps better known for their ability to remix alter-indie classics into souped up dancefloor anthems.

Since then however, they’ve toured some of the best clubs this world has to offer, perfecting their mixes and imbuing their own brand of up-tempo techno-house on the ears, hips and brains of whomever is lucky enough to be present. Tonight’s audience, however, is growing restless – each club-goer eager to secure their spot on the dance floor. Luckily it seems, good things come to those who wait and after keeping the crowd in suspense for what seems like a small eternity, MSTRKRFT finally take to the podium with all the style and purpose one would expect of seasoned pros.

Comprising of DFA 1979’s Jesse F Keeler and super-producer Al-P, the Canadian duo recently released their second opus, entitled “Fist Of God”. And judging from the ecstatic reaction from tonight’s crowd, it looks like they’re still riding high on the crest of the techno sound wave. Their trademark mishmash of bone-rattling bass, sleek ‘n’ sexy vocals and incessant percussion succeeds in shaking the very foundation of Brighton’s much loved late-night venue and the sweaty throng doesn’t let up for a second, dancing well into the early hours and hailing the DJ desk with a new form of worship.

So with bettered eardrums and aching legs, it’s off to the all night diner for a bit of grease and rehabilitation with fellow house heads. No words, just…breakfast butties.
