Hospitality: High Contrast Album Launch Party

Hospitality: High Contrast Album Launch Party

Digital, 3rd May2009

Building on a successful residency at Audio, Hospitality hopped across the road to Digital in honour of a special album launch party. High Contrast has been turning drum & bass on its head for the last few years and has just released his ‘Confidential’ double album to chart that journey. As the golden boy of one of the finest labels around it’s not hard to cobble together a massive line up.

As expected the night sold out in advance and the main room was packed early on. Although Logistics and London Elekticity played storming sets the night undoubtedly belonged to High Contrast, if nothing else measured by how many times ‘If We Ever’ got rinsed during the evening (3 times that I heard). When he took to the stage at 2 o’clock the already busy room filled to bursting.

Harking all the way back to early Contrast ‘Racing Green’ (the first track ever to be played on Annie Mac’s Mash Up) highlighted the new fans from the dedicated followers. As with any High Contrast set there was plenty of hands in the air moments but it was the extended Skream remix of La Roux’s ‘In For The Kill’ that got the biggest reaction of this and seemingly every night at the moment.

Following High Contrast and the mass exodus of people desperate for fresh air the night was finished off by fellow Hospital lads Cyantific. Keeping on the crowd please Pendulum made an increasingly rare appearance but perhaps best of all was PFM’s ‘The Western’, a classic not heard nearly enough.

Although the regular night is a staple of the clubbing calendar the Audio sound system is in no way comparable to that of Digital’s. From the minute you walked in you felt the brilliant, familiar atmosphere of Hospitality and, yet, a floor rumbling of bass. There had been buzz about this party for a long time and it definitely lived up to the expectation, Digital provided an excellent venue and Hospital Records the perfect soundtrack.
