Brighton’s much loved indie-folk perennials The Galleons are back with Lonely Disco 17, the ever popular night that brings you the best touring bands on the circuit for a mind bogglingly reasonable £5.
Bird in the Belly are a collective made up of solo artist Jinnwoo, folk duo Hickory Signals, visual artist Epha Roe, and instrumentalist Tom Pryor. Together they have spent the last 12 months collecting, arranging and recording traditional songs and stories that have rarely or never been recorded before, hoping to reintroduce them into the canon.
The band have been garnering praise from some of the biggest names in folk music and beyond and look destined for great things. Their ability to bring ancient song traditions bang up to date is second to none and the band never fail to enchant an audience with their fantastic musicianship and effortless warmth.
We are very excited to be hosting a rare Brighton appearance by Son of Kirk. Informed by a diverse set of scenes ranging from psychedelic, post and progressive rock, minimalism and 1960’s revivalist folk and blues, SoK create their own unique take on modern acoustic driven music. To give their sound a name, prog-folk or post psych-blues would both be accurate.
SoK combine interweaving guitar and violin lines. Melodic vocal and lyrical interplay; intense instrumental interludes, moments of fragile naïve beauty and uplifting songs of hope and redemption.
Your hosts The Galleons are again mixing things up with a different line up and some new songs. The band are keen to try new ideas, with a more direct sound, new textures and a few new toys to play with! Melody driven songs that start somewhere vaguely folky are still the order of the day and the band continue to love playing with dynamics and tempo to keep the audience guessing and engaged.
