Fresh off the release of his brand-new album Laughter In Summer, the legendary singer, composer and transgender activist comes to Brighton Festival
After remaining virtually undiscovered until 2015 at the age of 71, Beverly Glenn-Copeland was approached by a Japanese collector seeking copies of his 1986 album Keyboard Fantasies. A domino-effect ensued, inspiring reissues, new recordings and collaboration with Sam Smith and Romy of The xx.
His latest album Laughter In Summer is a collaborative love letter between himself and his eco-poet, theatre actor and producer and life partner Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland. It symbolises the memories, shared devotion and joy of a life lived together, as well as the grief felt following Glenn’s diagnosis with a version of dementia known as LATE.
Genre-defying and deeply intuitive, he brings his unique blend of folk, jazz, classical and electronic music to the Brighton Dome Concert Hall stage. With minimalist structures and gentle vocals, Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s music is intimate and deeply intuitive.
Joining him onstage will be members of F*Choir, a 60-strong, queer-led ensemble that reimagines what choral singing can be – bold, high-energy, full-body music that celebrates collective liberation, joy, and embodied resistance.
