Next time you arrive at Brighton station, don’t be surprised if you see Elton John popping out of WH Smiths or perhaps Tom Waits waiting languidly for the 10:34 to Eastbourne.
Well, that’s if Peter Kyle, labour candidate for Hove gets his way.
Having seen commuters at London’s St Pancras while away the hours with the use of a well-placed public piano, Mr Kyle believes the inhabitants of our fair city could benefit from an opportunity to tickle ivories of their own whilst in transit.
“Brighton and Hove is a creative city, packed full of talent” said Mr Kyle, “With all the delays and the travel chaos, what better way to raise people’s spirits than to have a piano?” Well, that depends who’s playing it, of course.
The plan is still dependent of the station’s say-so but for all those rail-side Rachmaninovs out there, a cheap day return to Brighton looks like it could turn out to be a worthwhile investment.
The key to happiness…
