Friction fronts a Shogun Audio showcase straddling the old-school breaks of jungle pioneer Shy FX and future drum’n’bass of labelmate Rockwell, amongst others set to bounce a packed Digital crowd off the walls.
The imprint founder himself a scene heavyweight, Friction is notorious for his ability to mix on three decks simultaneously. His selections spanning shades of liquid through neurofunk, he’s certainly not a afraid to drop a classic on the dancefloor!
Shy FX, nothing if not nostalgic, will doubtless himself deliver a seriously retro medley of 90s crossover hits, not unadorned with the odd smash from his own roster. Likely to feature are the jungle staples ‘Original Nuttah’ and ‘Everyday’ as well as plenty of releases from his Digital Soundboy labelmates, all smothered in rave horns and ragga emceeing.
Rockwell gained true notoriety with the release of ‘Full Circle’, one of the label’s biggest releases, all tightly wound pinball percussion and brooding atmospherics. His mixes often drift away from straight drum’n’bass, exploring the techier realms mirrored in his productions.
Shogun’s chief compere SP:MC will keep the Digital floor shaking, holding together a real treat of a night for both Shogun Audio fans and the as yet uninitiated.
11-4, £12 adv + BF.
