My Jerusalem put something fresh back into the underground music scene, rather than the formulaic indie bands which crop up constantly in the charts.
The debut single from this southern-American outfit is a beautifully bittersweet love song. Jeff Klein’s smooth vocals are well accompanied by sweet female harmonies at the chorus, and violin in the background. Intricate guitar work features throughout, along with the carefully orchestrated tambourine playing. The song overall reminds me of sixties era folk songs (but shorter and sweeter).
For their first offering, My Jerusalem has done well, and it is fair to see why they have attracted so much attention. Fans of folk, soft rock and indie will be joining forces in becoming the fan-base for Jeff Klein’s new effort.
Living up to their word, the band cannot be pinpointed to any one genre, and I hope it stays this way. They keep you guessing at every turn, which for me is a nice surprise.
