Mean Poppa Lean have been shortlisted for The Critics Choice Award 2009 by UK Festival Awards for their performance at this years Great Escape Festival. The Brighton funk-sters (and XYZ Unsigned 2008 winners!) have been nominated from a list of acts that included The Prodigy, Thom Yorke, and The Specials, and reportedly are they only unsigned band in the shortlist. In the words of UK Festivals,
“This award is designed to celebrate those special acts who added something a little extra to their festival show. It could be comedy, nostalgia, crowd interaction or just that ‘secret ingredient’ – basically something that sets them apart from other performers as a real crowd pleaser.”
