Launched in 2004, Rising Styles (formally Brighton Hip-Hop Festival) is the biggest celebration of hip-hop culture in the UK. Along with a film screening, there is the regular Freizebox in Jubilee Square – a huge canvas box that is decorated by graffiti artists.
Hammer & Tongue and Slip Jam:B join forces for Rap Slam, a night incorporating performances of rap and poetry, as well as the slam itself, where lyricists go head to head in front of a panel.
Club nights are taken care of in the form of Battlejam (on the Sunday) and Positivity on the Friday hosts a King of the Beats special.
Presented by Sparkii Ski, the night features legendary NY emcee Mikey D previewing tunes from Main Source’s new LP. Footage of the ‘Beat Challenge’ will also be shown where producers are given 24 hours and a £20 diggin budget to create a beat!
The night also includes a producer Q&A, MPC demo and the Battlejam battle.
