Having been on the industry’s radar since she was 14, Sky Ferreira is tipped by pretty much everyone to be the next big thing. She may still only be 17 but the release of her debut single “One” could signal the beginning of something special. Out on August 2, it showcases Ferreira’s distinctive take on the robotic pop of artists such as Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.
Her music has been described as possessing “the dark heart of Blondie, the rock’n’roll edge of Courtney Love, the sexiness of a Prince protégé and the knowing sassiness of early Madonna,” which is quite a statement by anyone’s standards. She has certainly captured the imagination of the music industry and if she lives up to even a small portion of the hype she’ll capture yours too.
