The one-time Massive Attack collaborator released debut album “Maxinquaye” way back in 1993, receiving widespread critical acclaim, a Mercury prize nomination and NME’s Album of the Year.
His output in the years since has been nothing if not consistent with some ten studio albums receiving generally favourable reviews and reinforcing his reputation as a purveyor of brooding, complex music. 2014’s eponymous “Adrian Thaws” found him at his most quietly menacing, applying hip-hop, house, rock and reggae tropes in his singular style and featuring an international crew of collaborators.
Fresh from touring Europe, he now brings his dark, unnerving and ceaselessly creative sound to Brighton. 9pm, £18 standing, Festival standby £10.
