The groundbreaking mini-season returns for its third year in a row to bring you the very best in immersive audio-visual entertainment.
Featuring on the bill this time around is Mikhail Karikis‘ “SeaWomen” – an audio-visual installation that follows the daily lives of elderly female sea workers as they dive for pearls and seafood of the coast of Jeju, South Korea. The installation explores the reversal of traditional gender-roles, the women’s sense of community, their collective economics, and their sense of professional identity, purpose, fun and independence in later age.
Also featuring is a double-bill performance from Sculpture (consisting of Dan Hayhurst and Reuben Sutherland), who’ve teamed up with new age music producer Alex smoke with visuals by Florence To, for what promises to be a truly immersive and futuristic experience of sound and light.
“The Works” segment of the Earsthetic residency will feature a variety of artists and mediums, each giving audiences the chance to view and critique a number of works in progress from artists such as Brighton duo AK/DK and Richard Jackson (Plume), David Somlo and virtual reality company Exzeb.
In the more classic/contemporary vein, jazz vocalist Elaine Mitchener, in collaboration with choreographer Dam Van Huynh, computer music pioneer George Lewis, and sound artist, writer and musician David Toop, explores multiple performance themes centred around the art of vocal improvisation in her piece entitled “Industrialising Intimacy”.
Cult favourites the Tiger Lillies also feature on this fantastic bill, with a full rendition of their gritty and macabre album “Lulu-A Murder Ballad” set amidst a large scale, visually stunning virtual set.
And topping off proceedings is a performance from Bianca Casady (of CocoRosie fame) who aims to deconstruct the traditional paradigm of what a music concert actually is. She’s joined by long-time collaborators the C.i.A. and dancer Biño Sauitzvy in performing music from her upcoming solo album “Oscar Hocks”.
