The third instalment in Deez’s recorded output is as instantly recognisable as its predecessors. The entirely self-made LP has the usual whip-smart lyricism and playful ideas you’d expect from the New York native, yet it’s noticeably augmented with a broader adventurousness (“Lover”), heavier attack (“Rated R”, “Kill Your Attitude”) and an increased lean towards the melancholic self-deprecation you’d expect.
Deez has succeeded in shaking off the excess novelty value to unveil a grittier, rockier and equally enjoyable record.
7/10. Out September 18.
