Maple Glider announces first ever UK shows including a date in Brighton!

Touring new LP “I Get Into Trouble”, out October 13th via Partisan, Maple Glider is the project of Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Tori Zietsch.

Alongside the announcement of her upcoming release, and following on from single “Don’t Kiss Me,” (out earlier this spring), comes album highlight “Dinah”, teamed with an irreverent video made with creative collaborator and live bandmate Bridgette Winten, packed with vibrant costumes and ridiculous props.

Showing off the pop side of Maple Glider’s unique brand of psych-folk, “Dinah” refers to the bible story ‘Dinah Gets Into Trouble,’ where a young woman is victim-blamed for being sexually assaulted. The track addresses the double standards within her experience growing up with Christianity and the accusations levelled at “non-believers” – even whilst the church wasn’t a safe space itself.

“For me, “Dinah” is the scariest thing I’ve ever put out” says Zietsch. “It’s probably the most pop feeling song I’ve released, but it’s really quite an angry song. I have felt incredibly disturbed and frustrated and sad in the process of writing and putting it together. I wanted the video to be fast paced, colourful, and full of energy, the same kind of riled up energy I had when I wrote the song. But it also had to be silly, because I can’t help that.”

New album ‘I Get Into Trouble’ picks up where 2021 debut LP “To Enjoy is the Only Thing” left off, delving back into her Christian childhood in greater detail, deconstructing her relationship to her body, and concepts of consent and shame. The release compares religion and sexuality in great detail, before closing in hopeful optimism, and embracing peace.

“This album feels more like an opening up because there are things I wasn’t feeling ready to publicly share through songs” she explains, “but now I finally feel ready.”

With ‘I Get Into Trouble’, each song takes tribulations and confusion and works it into clarity and insight, expanding on the infectious folk-pop of her debut in a new release comprised of some of her best material yet, check it out to see for yourself!
