MORE ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH GLOBAL SOCIALS – & WHY WE NEED BRIGHTON’S ‘XYZ SOCIAL’:

Social followers SHOULD always be shown your updates in their feed. But post-limiting algorithms at big socials can mean they’re not! Why it matters:

NOT good for the band, or venues, promoters etc! We hit FOLLOW because we WANT THEIR NEWS! AND to reach us helps their business function!

And this is exactly what’s happening. Even with THOUSANDS of followers, important news can often NEVER reach many followers!! Sure, your news is right there at your page where you’ve posted, if followers come looking – but they don’t! That’s what their FEED is for! They should be shown it there.

If you’ve ever run a page / group & seen your post reach, you already know about this massive problem! 

It imposes unecessary limits for all – causes missed opportunities for organisers, businesses, local talent, makers, local movers & shakers – AND for those who enjoy following along, & taking up their offers or booking / buying from them!

And so, the idea for XYZ Social was born!. To REMOVE these problems!

How Does It Work At The Brand New XYZ Social Site?

(This will be added as a ‘tour’ online after testing / launch)

REGISTER TO ACCESS XYZ SOCIAL – to avoid spam & ensure it’s kept local. You don’t have to live in Brighton, perhaps you visit often, have a business, property or other connection, or just blemin’ love it here! You’re very welcome!

YOUR PERSONAL MENU – After login, you see a menu with your name – update your profile here first. Then, click the top link with your piccy on it for your profile page, where you can start posting updates! Your profile info can be seen by other users, via the ‘More Info’ button at the top of your XYZ profile page.

YOUR XYZ PAGE: ‘XYZBrighton.com/Your-Chosen-Username’ – it’s the link to share with people, to follow your personalised page! All your status updates are here, events, plus bio (the ‘More Info’ button), sites, social links, media gallery etc. You can also post from here, on your PC, tablet or phone!

MAIN NEWS FEED – browse ALL public updates here. Also found in the menu at: ‘NEWS’

SHARE VIDEO, PHOTOS, @MENTIONS, #TAGS – via the news tab of your page – all the handy stuff you do at social sites, in a platform dedicated to Brighton & Hove!

MEMBERS CAN COMMENT on your updates, like and ‘favourite’ them!

FOLLOW & FRIEND USERS – and they can follow & friend you! Find feeds of their news under your profile’s ‘NEWS’ tab!

ADD EVENTS – at the XYZ add events menu, & they’re shared automatically! Hosting a private event? Create a private group!

CREATE YOUR OWN GROUPS! Create & manage your own public or private groups for people to join, about whatever you like! Link to GROUPS in your personal menu.

INSTALL THE XYZ APP! You should get a notification when you hit this website on your device. Click to download!
Remember to ACCEPT NOTIFICATIONS when it pops up, this way you’ll get a notification on your phone when something happens at your page! Likes, comments, friends, posts etc – set notifications up how you want them via your profile menu! (Instructions below).

POST WITH YOUR MOBILE PHONE! Open your XYZ page on your phone to post from your ‘updates’ window! Hit the media icon to pick camera /camcorder, click to capture and share, there & then, to your XYZ feed!

HOW TO INSTALL THE XYZ APP:

See below, & remember to say YES to notifications when prompted (see pic below), so you hear on your device when someone’s added you, commented, etc on XYZ Social! You can set it up exactly how you want it in your personal menu, or by clicking the little back circle bottom right.

PS – if you download it & there’s a prob, let us know! The app’s optimised for iPhone & android, but in the unlikely event it’s not properly styled for your phone type, it might look like a CAR CRASH! If it does, or you spot something skewiff, please tell us so we can fix it! Send us a WhatsApp with screen dumps & your phone type! FAAANKS!!

ACCEPT NOTIFICATIONS

Here’s how it looks, click ALLOW, then hit your menu or the little black envelope (see below), at the bottom left of the XYZ website.

Don’t get that notice? You can also switch notifications on in your web browser or at the XYZ site….

Just switch the ‘Notifications’ toggle to blue / ON! That’s it!

Finally, you can switch on XYZ Notifications via the little black envelope icon, bottom left of the XYZ site:

I’ve Just Joined, How Do I Get Started?

Ok – you’ve had a quick look at all the great stuff you can do at XYZ Social (above, in ‘How Does It Work…’) – how do you just jump in and get started?

PERSONALISE YOUR XYZ PROFILE PAGE! – This is the VERY first thing to do – just like on Facebook, when XYZ followers come to your page you want them to see it looking fab!!! You can do all this in your personal menu, under your username, top right  –

1. Add your profile photo, for example a logo or a photo – plus a cover photo
2. Edit your profile info – some of this appears at the top of your XYZ profile page! For example your ‘tagline’, where you’re based, what kind of user you are (a business we can all check out, an XYZ reader etc).  Other users can access publicly shared profile info via the ‘More Info’ button at the top of your XYZ profile page.
3. Your XYZ profile page, for sharing at your other socials for example, to collect followers, can be found at XYZBrighton.com/Your-Chosen-Username – if you forget, you can hit the menu link with your avatar in it, and then simply copy the link from the url bar!

START TO SHARE YOUR NEWS! – Share your news at your page, click ‘Create A Post’ in your menu, hit your black posting box & start sharing! Updates, Links, Pics, Videos & more! If you choose to post publicly, your update will automatically be added to the main ‘XYZ News Feed’ here. You can follow along with sitewide Brighton & Hove community news at this page – also found in the menu at: ‘News’

YOUR XYZ PROFILE PAGE: ‘XYZBrighton.com/Your-Chosen-Username’ – it’s the link to share with people, to follow your personalised page! All your status updates are here, events, plus bio (the ‘More Info’ button), sites, social links, media gallery etc. You can also post from here, on your PC, tablet or phone!
