The Orb: Live At Patterns
Plus support from:
Marree Men featuring Gaudi and Alex Paterson and Wobbly DJs!
Friday 24th October
Patterns, Brighton
Presented by Wobbly Records in association with 7 Artist Management, iconic 90s music group The Orb, are bringing their ambient house and psychedelic sound to Brighton’s Patterns!. Teasing their new album “Buddhist Hipsters” which fully releases on the 10th of October, the duo will perform on the 24th of October – make sure you don’t miss it!
Initially formed by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty in 1988 after an afternoon trip right here in Brighton, The Orb developed their ambient vibe, mixing Jamaican dub, psychedelic soundscapes and dance rhythms. Famously pioneering this unique sound, they’ve released hits such as “A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld” (1989) “Little Fluffy Clouds” (1990), and “Blue Room” (1992), which peaked at number 8 on the UK Top Charts. As well as this, the group have collaborated with such notable musicians as David Gilmore (Pink Floyd), Martin Glover (Killing Joke) and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. Through the originality of their cosmic, spacey feel, The Orb have paved the way for ambient electronica, influencing listeners with their music since the 90s.Â
Three songs from “Buddhist Hipsters” have already been dropped: “It’s Coming Soon”, “Under The Bed” and “Arabebonics”, which uses eastern influences and features rapper Rrome Alone, as well as strings from Violeta Vicci.
Alex Patterson said of the album: ‘I was having a dream, and in this dream was an escalator descending out of the clouds, upon which were Buddhists and hipsters travelling downwards, and beckoning me down from the top, was Roger Eno. When I woke up, I had a text from him, asking if we fancied more collabs, so he’s on the record, amongst other friends’
Having already played multiple venues in Brighton over time, such as Concorde 2 and Brighton Dome, the band has many ties to the city. For fans of ambient house, trippy tunes or 90s electronic nostalgia, expect an immersive, psychedelic live set, and make sure to bag your tickets early to avoid missing out!Â
