Set in the picturesque Italiante village of Portmeirion, this idyllic spot has inspired the creation of a completely new type of festival. In the middle of the rugged beauty of Snowdonia, its whereabouts is by far one of the most serene and spiritual around. Good riddance to muddy fields!
This year’s eclectic line-up is headlined by Mogwai, Bloc Party and The Flaming Lips and you’ll be able to see hundreds of performances across the weekend from huge names like The Cinematic Orchestra, Wild Beasts, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Laura Mvula, Kate Tempest, The Cribs and many more.
As with most great festivals, it’s not all about the music. There’s paddle boarding on offer, hot tub sessions, torch-lit processions, a vintage fair, or just a simple stroll along the sandy shore, or through the 70 acres of woodland that surrounds the site. Arts and culture plays a leading role, with a huge variety of workshops, talks, comedy, cabaret, theatre and cinema screenings to enjoy throughout, both for adults and kids.
Forget any preconceptions you had about festival food too, because what’s on offer here is just as exciting and diverse as the entertainment. You can experience a banquet in the Portmeirion hotel from a Michelin starred chef, dine in the stunning Castell dining room, or just explore the many hand picked independent food stalls. To complete the experience in style, why not treat yourself to one of the boutique camping options on offer, such as deluxe tipis, woodland lodges and boathouses!
Don’t Miss this Event Because: When Beck headlined No.6, he was so blown away by everything he experienced he told the crowd: “This is the coolest, most surrealist, funkiest, freakiest, best festival in the world…”
