11am-12pm £15, members £12
Coinciding with the return of the restored Chinese porcelain pagodas to the Music Room of the Royal Pavilion, Dr Patrick Conner, former Keeper of Fine Art at Brighton Museum, talks about the history and meaning of Chinese pagodas and the enthusiasm for them among Europeans. George III, George IV, and Frederick the Great feature, as well as a royal pagoda-builder who made some dubious claims.
This is the first John Dinkel Memorial Lecture, celebrating the life and work of John Dinkel, Keeper and Deputy Director of the Royal Pavilion from 1974 until 1989, and Emeritus Keeper until his death in 1991.
