THE ACADEMY OF SUN
The Academy Of Sun, in its earliest incarnation, performed at St Mary’s Church ten years ago, so we’ve decided to celebrate a decade of ceaseless and fevered activity by returning to the ark and presenting a very special concert with an augmented line-up and some very special guests.
Throughout 2018 we have been sculpting away at a colossal new work called The Quiet Earth, and at this event, with the addition of choir and strings we shall be premiering songs from it with the full breadth of arrangement which shall be heard on the record. With specially-commissioned video-mapping projections by artist Ece Polan Budak, we invite you to delight in the astounding acoustics and architecture of St Mary’s Church with us for this very special evening.
21 CROWS
Jon Griffin’s 21 Crows create beautiful tapestries of dark folk, gothic drone and beautiful, often historically-enriched storytelling, carried aloft by Jon’s intimate and keening vocals. We’ve shared many a bill over the years and we’re utterly thrilled to have them join us for this night. Cannot wait to hear this extraordinary group in St Mary’s.
SEANCE DJS
James Papademetrie and Pete Wiggs parse through the hauntological trillings of our half-sleep, pouring it like red diesel into their long-running broadcast The Seance. We’re huge fans of these oneiric transmissions and thus we’ve invited them to complete the evening. Hugely excited to have them on board.
This will be our last show of the year. A celebration of all we’ve been upto throughout 2018, a premiere of sorts, and a return to one of our favourite spaces after too many years.
