Hi everyone! Super excited to invite you for first evening of “Svekla” Russian film screenings. First film presented will be “Peculiarities of the National Hunt”. It’s a comedy about bunch of Russian guys going hunting and drinking and having fun stories there. It will be at The Quadrant Pub on 21st of January starting at 8pm. The idea is to raise money for LGBT Russian Network, helping out people in Chechen Republic and the North Caucasus.
About situation in Chechnya:
“In April, reports of abductions, detentions, disappearances, torture and deaths targeting gay and bisexual men in Chechnya began making international headlines. The Chechen government denied that security officials had launched an anti-gay purge, saying that gay men don’t exist in the republic.” (BBC, 2017)
About the film:
“A Finn preparing a work on the Russian hunting traditions and customs, comes to Russia to collect materials and is invited to take part in a hunting party. His flamboyant companions include an Army general, with more than a passing resemblance to Aleksander Lebed, a police detective, local forest ranger (a devotee of Zen Buddhism) and some big-city types from St. Petersburg. Inevitably, their good intentions soon give way to endless drinking, visits to local farm girls and much else besides.” (IMDB)
