See what's on & more about the venue at the above location page / link.An evening of contemporary melodic groove-based jazz fusion with the John Lake Trio joined by the talented young tenor saxophonist Elizabeth Bustard. The band will play a new “wave” of material written by John Lake since the last album “(Wave of Translation” 2016) alongside some tunes from that album and their first one (“Up on the Downs” 2012). The band will also play some classic electric jazz fusion by Chick Corea and The Yellowjackets and arrangements of tunes by Donald Fagen and Michael Jackson. John Lake on keyboards, Simon Cambers on drums and Matt Casterton on bass.
The John Lake Trio is, at its core, a piano-led modern jazz ensemble, with John Lake on keyboards, Matt Casterton on bass guitar and Simon Cambers on drums. They play together regularly as a trio and over the last 8 years this has included two full house appearances at the Verdict in Brighton (in the Guardian’s top ten jazz venues in Europe in 2016), two gigs at Ray’s Jazz at Foyles in London, at Odense Bibliothek in Denmark,
Keats House in London as well as local pubs, hotels and wine bars. The band appears regularly as a resident piano trio in the Victoria Lounge of the Grand Hotel, Brighton.
They have recorded two albums of original material produced as CDs entitled “Up on the Downs” (2012) and “Wave of Translation” (2016) with Jackie Sampson on vocals and Phil Paton on saxes. Both CDs of the band were launched to capacity audiences at the Verdict in Brighton and have been well reviewed and enthusiastically received at live events. They are now joined by talented Brighton tenor saxophonist, Elizabeth Bustard who plays regularly in the reggae band Samsara who have supported the internationally renowned Gypsy Kings; in Dende (Cumbia type band); Brighton based ska band Jacquemo; as a solo saxophonist with DJs recently supporting a Fat Boy Slim gig; with several bands at UK festivals; and with local big bands including the Brighton Big Band.
The John Lake Trio also perform jazz music with poetry and to date this has included John Harvey (Inspector Resnick novels), Anjan Saha (Live Literature Lounge,UK).
