He is the most influential manga arti st and animator of all time.\n\n \;\n\nTezuka defined the cinematic la nguage and visual style of Japanese comic art. Every Japanese animator and cartoonist that followed remains in his debt\, as evidenced in the huge D isney-style eyes still seen on manga characters today. Tezuka was also a p ioneer in animation. His company was the first to find an audience in the West\, with hit cartoons such as Astro Boy.\n\n \;\n\nTezuka produced over 150\,000 pages of comics in his lifetime and created enduring stories for children such as Princess Knight and Kimba the White Lion (later “r eimagined” as the Lion King by Disney). Tezuka also wrote the adult mang a Black Jack and won the Eisner Award for his masterpiece on the life of B uddha. He was a technically brilliant artist in his own right\, and this e xhibition showcases his line-work and composition through a selection of e nlarged copies of individual comic pages.\n\n \;\n\nThis exhibition is organised by the children’s literacy charity\, Upside Comics\, to help raise awareness of Tezuka’s life and work.\n\n \;\n\nThere will be w orkshops on making your own comic for children and young people aged 10 an d up (parents are asked to stay and join in).\n\n \;\n\n Friday 8th @ 2pm.\n Saturday 9th @ 2pm.\n Sunday 10th @ 2pm.\n\n \;\n\nUpside Co mics\, 113 Queens Road\, Brighton\, BN1 3XG.
