Musical Harold – Advanced Course

First time offering this course in Brighton!

The perfect mix of longform scenes and music. This longform musical course will have you diving into the Harold structure.

The basis of much longform improvisation, the ‘Harold’ is a 20-30 minute improvisation format composed of scenes and ‘games’ created fresh each time it is played. With its distinctive three-part structure, it gives a sense of coherence and unity to a show, but it is also flexible enough to change with the team, the night and content. In this course in particular, we will use musical improvisation to teach the Harold, so no previous knowledge of the Harold is necessary. However, this course is also suitable for players who do know the format and want to enrich its joys with music.

Syllabus Includes:

• Musical openings and group games

• Creating a musical language and world without telling a linear story

• Using real-life monologues and conversations for lyrical content

• Following Harold beats with thematic song choices

Participants should have experience with both musical Improvisation and longform improvisation and/or improvised scene work.

This course has two Maydays facilitators and so is slightly higher in cost than our other 2.5-hour 6-week courses.
