DESCRIPTION:This retrospective exhibition of US born Sussex based photograp
 her\, Marilyn Stafford encompasses the most comprehensive display of the p
 hotographer’s work to date. Works come from an international archive spa
 nning four decades and include celebrity portraits\, fashion shoots\, stre
 et photography\, humanitarian stories and newspaper reportage.\n\nMarilyn 
 Stafford’s photography career got off to a remarkable start when she was
  invited\, as a young woman\, to take stills of Albert Einstein. Since the
 n\, she has accumulated an eclectic body of work\, spanning from 1948-1980
 \, including further portraits of famous and influential figures such as E
 dith Piaf\, Henri Cartier-Bresson\, Mulk Raj Anand\, Indira Gandhi\, Alber
 t Finney\, Twiggy and Joanna Lumley. She has also photographed many ordina
 ry people like the illiterate Sicilian peasant woman\, Francesca Serio\, w
 ho took the Mafia to trial for murdering her son.\n\nThe exhibition also i
 ncludes a range of ephemera from Stafford’s archive including cameras an
 d original cuttings\, recordings of her speaking about her life and work a
 nd an additional display of silver gelatin prints.\n\nA Life in Photograph
 y is curated by Nina Emett in collaboration with Marilyn Stafford’s daug
 hter Lina Clerke.
