“I want my MTV…”
1981 saw the launch of MTV and with it the rise of the commercial superstar. Music television elevated and created gods out of Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, et all. The era of the “music icon” was born and with it came more than a decade of synth-pop, power ballads, rock anthems, electronic music and, later on, a golden age of hip hop. In contrast to these American superstars, the UK gave birth to anti-establishment bands such as The Smiths, Joy Division and The Jam who spoke for a generation that felt increasingly left behind…
Let’s Kill Disco takes you back to this iconic era, touching on the end of Disco, pounding out the biggest 80s anthems, slowing things down with an occasional power ballad and bringing it back up again with some early 90s hedonism… Expect to hear:
Journey, Guns N Roses, KC & The Sunshine Band, Prince, Run DMC, Human League, Earth Wind & Fire, New Order, Whitney Houston, Van Halen, Abba, The Jam, The Clash, David Bowie, Queen, Wham, A-ha and much much more!
