SUMMARY:Kal Marks // Reciprocate // Perch at The Pipeline £5.50 adv
DESCRIPTION:Kal Marks: Crushing\, beautiful\, absorbing fuzz-abraded noise
rock. For years\, Kal Marks was the loudest band in Boston. Though it's ha
rd to fathom\, as bands like Pile hammered away on post-hardcore songs and
Guerilla Toss shrieked through electronics-driven art-rock\, Kal Marks ch
arged through songs of exhaust and hopelessness from behind a wall of amps
\, a fervor that other artists couldn't match. The trio prioritized volume
over all else — it's been their shtick\, if it's fair to call it that
 — and frontman Carl Shane has no problem saying such. (As he once quanti
fied it\, "We're the band metalheads come up to after shows and just go\,
'Solid.'") It's a composition style they perfected\, so when it came time
to record their fourth album\, Kal Marks decided to get uncomfortable by r
eeling the noise in. They hit a sweet spot in the process.\nhttps://kalmar

s\, their songs all explode into a mess of jagged guitar riffs and off kil
ter drumming. Parts twist and turn\, go off at tangents\, head to unexpect
ed places\, stop\, start\, then stop again. The clattering drums and spiky
guitar work\, underpinned by solid bass playing. Riffs will only appear f
or a few bars and then be thrown away\, whilst others\, go on for around s
ix minutes similar to the principal that Lightning Bolt employ in their mu
