SUMMARY:IT IS STILL 1985 @ The Haunt
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nEVERY SATURDAY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n 11 PM\, £3\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nAn awe inspiring burst of shallow 80s music\, feat. legitimately g
 ood &amp\; BAD records from Phil Collins\, Tina Turner\, Huey Lewis &amp\;
  The News\, Whitney Houston\, Prince\, The Cure &amp\; more. A crowd surfi
n’ John Hughes lovin’ footloose journey into the sounds of Patrick Bat
 eman’s Sony Walkman.\nWelcome to Brighton's favourite 80s party\, "It is
still 1985"\, a footlose journey into the Sony Walkman of Patrick Batema
 n. Like stepping into a John Hughes movie 'It is still 1985' captures the
feeling of the decade that brought you legimately great &amp\; legimatel
y terrible pop music all in one epic party every Saturday at The Haunt. Wi
th a wild crowd of young partygoers who mostly don't remember the 80s firs
 thand\, prepare to delve into a world of innapropriate dance moves &amp\;
a whole heap of fun at what is widely regarded as Brighton's most popular
  &amp\; most fun night.\n\nOUR MUSIC POLICY\n\n\nIt Is Still 1985 seeks t
o earnestly capture the essence of the slick\, superficial\, overblown dec
ade that American Psycho's Patrick Bateman so thoroughly represented. Rath
er than just being amused by the vapid radio rock of the 80s\, we want to
embrace the shallow music of those times with the full emotion of someone
who has truly invested in the epic air grab that became so synonymous with
the power ballad music videos of the era. The night also aims to celebrat
e the great alternative pop music of the 1980s like The Cure\, New Order &
amp\; Kate Bush but (unusually for a night largely filled with hipster tw
enty somethings) we thoroughly invest in the sounds that live on Patrick B
ateman's Sony Walkman such as Huey Lewis &amp\; The News\, Whitney Houston
&amp\; Phil Collins\, and we are (with only the slightest hint of irony)
prepared to dig deeper into the well of superficial emotion and with a str
aight face\, (or possibly very emotional face) play records by the likes o
 f Toto\, Foreigner\, Bonnie Tyler\, Kenny Loggins\, &amp\; even (once you
are suitably drunk) prepared to force you to slow dance to Chris De Burgh'
s "Lady In Red". There is no question 1985 is prepared to go beyond the bo
undaries of good taste and we are very thankful to our audience of discern
ing party goers who are fully prepared to put their cool credentials aside
each and every time they attend to make the event epic on a weekly basis.
\n\nOUR HISTORY\n\n\nCreated as an occasional party back in 2004\, "it is
still 1985" saw its first weekly outings in Brighton's exciting undergroun
d venue New Hero in 2008\, becoming a Brighton cult sensation\, we packed
the club out for nearly 2 years straight every single Saturday with an arr
ay of exceptionally enthusiastic cool young people that took time off fro
m being trendy to relish an opportunity to unleash a series of inappropria
te dance moves to an uninhibited soundtrack of 80s joy. After leaving New
Hero we put on sold out events at Coalition and Concorde 2 before settling
on a new home as the flagship night of what has since become Brighton's
best alternative independent venue\, the old converted main screening room
of the ABC Cinema in Pool Valley Coach Station (opposite the iconic Brigh
ton Pier) now known as The Haunt (www.thehauntbrighton.co.uk).\nSince mov
ing to The Haunt\, we have run a further 5 years solid of sold out part
ies every single Saturday night since February 2011\, creating a phenomen
on of 80s power unrivalled by any other night in the city. As well as bei
ng renowned for putting on the best New Years Eve party in the city for th
e last 7 years\, Brighton residents know that a visit to 'It is still 19
85" at The Haunt on a Saturday is a reliably brilliant slice of 80s heaven
\, with a discerning crowd that temporarily put their good taste on hold f
or an evening of power grabs\, knee slides and the kind of dance moves no
t seen since the club scene in the movie Scarface\, or at least the backgr
ound of a mid 80s Top Of Pops episode. Although every Saturday night sees
queues\, we always try to get everyone in and usually succeed if you don't
mind waiting a little during our busier periods (people normally do even
in the worst weather\, as it's worth the wait)\, however we are now for th
e first time ever offering a priority entry guest list!\n\n\nfacebook.com/
